The Intelvi Valley is a magical place in the heart of the province of Como where relaxation and nature are close at hand.
Located between the towns of Argegno on Lake Como and Osteno, which is instead on Lake Lugano, this valley has the peculiar shape of an inverted Y; through the lower summits it touches the Lario and Ceresio lakes, while the upper one reaches the highest altitude (1,302 meters) of the valley, that is the locality of Sighignola in the municipality of Alta Valle Intelvi.
The Intelvi Valley has maintained a strong tourist vocation since the dawn of history; on the other hand, time has made this territory of Lombardy widely known for the hospitality of its inhabitants and for the wonderful views; to the astonished eyes of the visitor a wide and sunny valley opens up, in which the slopes of the mountains slide slightly until they sink into the two lakes.
What makes this valley unique is also its strategic position: in fact, the cultures and beauties of Como, Lugano, Dei Monti Lariani Occidentale, and the valley itself can be found in it.
So, getting lost in the scenic wonders of Val d’intelvi you will have the opportunity to fully enjoy all the historical-natural tourist offers of the lake in the surrounding areas.
During your visit you can have fun and relax without worries; you will not even have to worry about the heat as the Val d’Intelvi is not subject to a great deal of humidity.
Particularly in the hottest periods, this is the ideal place to spend a restful holiday.
Whoever you are and whatever your need is, Val d’Intelvi offers the right holiday for you: you can relax with your partner or have fun with your family in contact with nature, explore adventurous itineraries or dedicate yourself to your body with some healthy sport.
With its 30,000 square meters of greenery, the Colli Fioriti camping will offer you a truly unforgettable stay! Rest with every comfort, but without giving up the authentic contact with natural wonders!
After all, the Val d’Intelvi has a lot to give to its guests, also thanks to the particular position and structure that characterize it, making it the scene of breathtaking views.
From the main hills, it is possible to admire those views that make this valley absolutely unique and inimitable.
A few small examples? The viewpoint of Lanzo and Pigra. Called “Balcony of Italy“, it overlooks an unmissable view where lakes and mountains meet in a sensational landscape marriage.
Among the most famous peaks that surround the Intelvi Valley there is also Monte Generoso, which with its height of 1,701 m dominates the valley.
On a rocky plateau located on the summit, it is possible to admire the artistic installation “Fiore di pietra“, an innovative construction by the architect Mario Botta, on the windows of which the reflection of the incredible panorama below stands out.
Little less, at least as far as the height is concerned, the Monte Sighignola, of 1,302 m; from it as from Monte Generoso you can enjoy a sensational view that embraces Lake Lugano, and then extends even as far as Lake Maggiore, Lake Varese, but also the spectacular views of Monte Rosa and Matterhorn.
Other peaks that can be climbed or simply admired from the valley are Pizzo della Croce, 1,491 m, Sasso Gordona, 1,410 m, and Monte di Lenno, 1,589 m.
For the more courageous and athletic who decide to undertake the climb, these high peaks offer different suggestive perspectives on the beautiful Lake Como.
For hardcore sportsmen and history buffs, a visit to Mount Galbiga is a must. If you are not frightened by the considerable height, 1,698 m, this peak offers the opportunity to experience the panorama of the Val d’Intelvi completely: in fact, it overlooks the two lakes at 360 °.
Furthermore, history has also left its traces there, so much so that it is possible to observe the military testimonies of the “Cadorna Line”; articulated tunnels of trenches branch out emerging from the remains of the fortifications of the First World War.
Instead, for climbers who want to admire enchanting views of the lake, we recommend the Monte di Tremezzo, 1,700 m high, and Monte Crocione di Menaggio, 1,641 m high.
If what you want are quiet and relaxing walks, you will certainly have the opportunity to venture into the valley where beauties of all kinds await you.
Art lovers can visit numerous religious complexes characteristic of the local villages, known, in particular, for the remarkable stucco works made by the Magistri Comacini.
For those who have the opportunity to move, a visit to the wonders in the vicinity is a must, such as the Villa del Balbianello, recognized as heritage of the FAI, villa Carlotta or the way of the chapels of the Sacro Monte di Ossuccio, which is included in the World Heritage of ‘UNESCO Humanity.
